Blog Filler: Basic RPG Survey

There's a little RPG survey going around that seemed like good Gaming Blog filler. I know I've been a little remiss in updating, but I've been fairly busy with, well, life.

1. What is the first RPG you ever played?
The first commerical product would have had to be the boxed Basic D&D set. Darn, being an elf was good around those ghouls! And carrion crawlers are NASTY. Paralysis is fairly underplayed these days, generally (I think) because it's seen as overrunning character. [snort]

2. What RPG do you currently play most often?
Amber Diceless, unfortunately. (I say "unfortunately" because there are definitely days that I'm burnt out on it, although I am playing in a number of games with alternate rule systems or otherwise enough changes to help prevent that dismay and/or ennui.)

3. What is the best system you've played?
Probably BESM, just because it did most of what I wanted, simply and easily. I'm not over calling it "Amber 2nd Edition," and I'm not quite calling it "GURPS for Dummies," either.

4. What is the best system you've run?
_Nightlife!_ No, really, I just love this game.

5. Would you consider yourself an: Elitist/ Min-Maxer/ Rules Lawyer?
Don't forget "munchkin" separate from min-maxer. I'm a little of all of those at different times, depending on the character I'm running (or planning) with a note that my rules lawyering is very, very slight these days. (Um, see "Amber.") My actual play is different from my character design, though, as I'm constantly finding out.

6. If you could recommend a new RPG which would you recommend? Why?
Oh dear. I'm going to be picking up Dogs in the Vineyard, because of Doyce, who also influenced me to pick up InSpectres...both of which I'm hoping to get a chance to play soon! (Oh, and because Claire had the best idea for an Amber crossover with it...) Otherwise, since my collection has been boxed up, I've been slow to pick up new ones.

7. How often do you play?
Daily, with maybe some exception on weekends. FtF, PBeM, personal, and pick-up games. I said I was a gamer!

8. What sort of characters do you play? Leader? Follower? Comic Relief? Roll-Player/ Role-Player?
I think people who had listened to my recent characters would say, "Comic Relief." I actually prefer characters who learn to be leaders.

9. What is your favorite Genre for RPGs?
Urban fantasy, hands-down... however, since there are so few games with that orientation, I also love space opera.

10. What Genres have you played in?
Erm. What genres haven't I played in? (Mostly anything American: from the Revolutionary War to about 1980...)

11. Do you prefer to play or GM? Do you do both?
Yes.

12. Do you like religion in your games?
Every game of mine is religious in nature, whether or not the players realize it. I try to keep an open mind about religion. [grinning]

13. Do you have taboo subjects in your games or is everything "fair game"?
I try to pay attention to others' feelings, but I would say for myself that that level of discomfort is the only real taboo.

14. Have you developed your own RPG before?
In part? Sure. Plenty of times. Fully? No.

15. Have you ever been published in the Gaming Industry? If so...what?
Yes. Humour articles, mostly. I have a list of them somewhere.
