[note, most of this was written BEFORE I had read that Donaldson series...]
Most Mirror Magic is, first, and foremost, the magic of images. Even the powerful abilities of such magics as Trump are but a subset of the overall power
of imagery. One's outside image is a link to them, and while Trump may go deeper, it is reliant upon the image overall. However, both Trump and Mirrors are also windows -- access ports, in a way. While it is difficult to leave a Trump open, it is similarly difficult to leave a Mirror closed.
The major advantage to Mirror magic over Trump is the ability to distort them (and to have easier use of them in conjunction.) The major advantage to Trump is the semi-invulnerability.
MYTHS about MIRROR MAGIC:
** BREAKING A MIRROR IS BAD LUCK. Well, it might be, for whatever it is reflecting, and, certainly, it is if it's during a spell, but in general, once you break a mirror, you just get...more mirrors.
** STANDING BETWEEN TWO MIRRORS AMPLIFIES POWER. Well, it does. In a big *whoosh* of feedback. But it's mostly your power, and you're completely drained and blasted open. In some cases, you can latch on and drain anything reflected with you, but I wouldn't recommend it.
POWER SOURCE:
There are many ways to draw power using mirror magic. Here's a few.
1) YOURSELF. The tried and true version is simply using your own energies. You can do this either through rituals, or from tapping into your own Image.
2) STOLEN IMAGES: If you have been able to record or steal an Image in a mirror, you can tap from the source of the Image, or use the Image itself for power.
3) THE MIRROR: Some mirrors are enchanted and can provide their own energy.
ENCHANTING MIRRORS:
1) The Soul Sucking Mirror of Doom:
This is, in effect, a mirror without an image. Nature abhors a vacuum, so yes, it will attempt to steal the image of anything that might fill it... the bigger, the more the suction.
2) The Mirror That Looks Elsewhere:
This mirror is forced to look otherwise for its images. Its light is bent.
3) The Mirror That Speaks:
Once an image is captured, a reflection of it may be summoned if the mirror has enough "memory." The better the quality of the mirror, the longer images can be summoned.

How does the Snow Queen's mirror, that distorts everything it reflects into unpleasantness, fit into this concept?
