Recently in It Happened Like This... Category

I think I'll call this mini-campaign, "Please and Shank You," which was a quote tonight in regards to Amberites and their manners.

So far it's an odd little group. Two of the people haven't played before or read the books, and the other is a semester away from being a graduate of Minion University, if you know what I mean. Originally the plan was to make it a no-holds-barred Throne War, but instead I've actually got things like Plot and Development. (P&D, the ol' one-two. Erm.)

It took a while to make characters. I started doing my standard recitation of the books and decided I need to make it more interesting, so I skipped forward and punctuated some of the highlights. I need to develop a snappy patter for it.

I asked them if they wanted horror, adventure, light-hearted soap opera, or another mood to the game. We got one vote for fairly light-hearted, so I'm peppering it with silly innuendo and some odd NPCs. It's gotten plenty bloody so far, though less so than the horror scenario I had prepped to run.

When the Unicorn stole the Eye of the Serpent, they meant Dworkin. Dworkin was "the Eye" of the Serpent Itself. It was a sacred, privileged role, an investiture in magics, and where he was, the Serpent Watched. He spent years with the Serpent in his brain. Having the Pattern has warded that, but he also occasionally gets "ideas" from the Pattern. All the information the Pattern has recorded from those who have walked on it is available to Dworkin...at a price.

(ednote: The following was written for SWtE, but may prove amusing outside of the campaign.)

We have obtained this early report from the remains of House Helgram. It appears to be a preliminary report from a scholar/spy sent soon after initial contact was made, with one or two notes added in just before we obtained it from a Helgram lieutenant. It's statedly based entirely on official reports, which limits its usefulness as an informative document, but makes it especially useful in terms of what we're "supposed" to know.

I dreamed...

I was opening the way to Amber, the slow way, because I was unsure about being able to hold the threads open anyway but walking. It was a long walk, though, and Our Sweetie said she couldn't take it. I had no Trumps, so we stopped off in a Shadow not too far from our own.

I remember having to explain to her that because it was a Shadow, and thus didn't have as much reality as our home, that she had to be careful because her desires would have influence on what happened.

The part I was worried about, however, was that dead friends would call, not knowing that they were dead in her world. I explained that they would not know who she was, really, because she wouldn't be the same in this world, but their reflections would be attracted to her Reality.
