A Grand Affair: Ybara

Similarly, here's the other character I had, for a very brief time, illustrated in the Grand Affair campaign.

1. What is your character's background? What shadow is your character from, and what role does he or she play there?

Ybara, Utsukushii of Cletus, one of the oldest members of the Golden Circle, and one where trade is infrequent and secret, but was essential to Oberon's reign. They are mostly known as a supplier of Lethe as well as other chemicals that suppress questions, uprisings, riots, and memories.

The Utsukushii (the direct translation is "beautiful." One might note that the number of syllables (four; the extra "i" is mostly to note that it is an adjective and thusly gets dropped as the adjective is modified further by the sentence) indicates to some extent the level of complication to the word; beautiful leading to an honourable beauty) are geisha-equivalents, usually with diplomatic and/or assassin training.

I am envisioning Cletus to be a rather decadent nation underneath its totalitarian rule. The Cletus (the hereditary ruler) enjoys his delights. Those who follow him are allowed delights. The Utsukushii are his gifts to give, showing favour to someone. If that someone fails to please him, the gift may turn deadly. To a certain extent, the Utsukushii are spies, and treated as such, but they are also quite helpful if they are loyal. It's kind of like having a guardian angel that can fall... and take you with her. (Almost always "her.")

2. What are the important things to know about your character's sexual interests and habits, including sexual orientation and dominance interests?

She's a professional. She doesn't have preferences, just responsibilities.

She was trained under the Mistresses of Pain for the obligatory four years, and then spent time as a disciple for the Mistresses of Pleasure. Overall she prefers the combination; just enough pain to keep it interesting. There's a rumour that the Mistresses of Pleasure have schools (disguised as convents) in Rebma. In both places she was treated as a switch, but never really as a dominant; she was expected to fulfill others' fantasies. She might know how to cause pain, but not how to be dominant.

She has a fairly bad attitude towards casual sex and romance. If it isn't a business transaction, she's a little bit confused as to the reasons to do it. She knows her body is a trade item; she tends to have detachment issues. If someone could actually cause her great pleasure she'd be at wit's end.

3. Why is your character at the Grand Affair? Why was he or she chosen to come? Why did he or she choose to come?

The Cletus wants to remind Random that Cletus is there for the new King much as it was for the old... and, well, he'd like to open up the slave trade again, push on a few places in his treaty to see how lenient this new King will be. Having so much power in the one family seems to be one of its failings, so if Ybara can investigate other ambassadorial powers, so much the better. She's extremely quick to pick such things up; after all, she was trained for it.

4. What sorts of things does your character want from Amber? Which member of the family can get your character what he or she wants?

Ybara wants what makes the Cletus happy. If the Cletus is happy, then she may be given to an older family and not abused too badly. If the Cletus is unhappy, she will have to do bad things.

5. What is your character willing to do (not just sexually) to achieve his or her goals?

Um, just about anything. Lie, cheat, steal, poison, murder, spindle, fold, and mutilate. Well...she can't marry.

6. What else should the GMs know about this character to integrate him or her into the game?

The LintKing is afraid that Ybara is somewhat too plot-driven, but I think we'll discard that fairly quickly.
