Threat Rankings

One of the things that causes me the most consternation in playing a pregenerated character (I run into this in Amber LARPs at ACNW more often than not) is knowing where I rank on the 'threat scale.'

I understand that your Warfare statistic helps you evaluate your opponents, but what I want is some kind of guideline as to where my character's strengths are, even if it's just a descriptor like, "Other people are afraid of this power."

I was looking over some of my previous characters and my efforts in playing them and thinking, "I would have been a better player if I'd realized that [X] was an effective ability, not just a sidenote to my character's background."

How would you emphasize this? I'm thinking in my next pregenerated game I'll ask specifically, "Is this something I can legitimately capitalize on?" which is my role as player, but what about as GM? Should I allow my players to assume that anything on the character sheet or in the character information pack is important? Or should I say specifically, "This is just about a quirk-level note," when it's pretty background stuff?
